IMG_9001Jannettas Gelateria has won the Food and Drink category of the Fife Business Awards.

Operating from its original St Andrews site since 1908, Jannettas Gelateria won the prestigious Fife Chamber of Commerce award at Rothes Halls, Glenrothes last night (Friday 18 March 2016).

The fourth generation family business makes its ice-cream on site using traditional artisan machinery and only the highest quality ingredients.  They excel when it comes to innovation, with a host of unusual flavours in addition to the more traditional, and for tapping into fantastic local ingredients, such as gin and whisky from Kingsbarns and soft fruits from Carnie Fruit  Farm and Blacketyside Farm.

As members of the Food for Fife network of food producers and retailers, Jannettas Gelateria ensures that is products are locally sourced and Fife-grown where possible, recently recognised by their ‘Taste Our Best’ endorsement from Visit Scotland.  Believing that Fife is a great food destination, owners Owen and Nicola Hazel work with other producers and retailers across the region to promote its offering, through food festivals and events, and train staff to deliver a fantastic welcome to visitors, such as through WorldHost training.

Jannettas Gelateria was competing against two other local businesses in the ‘Excellence in Food and Drink’ category, one of 11 categories open to businesses throughout the Kingdom.

Co-owner Owen Hazel commented, “As a business which has been firmly rooted in Fife for over 100 years, this particular award is of huge importance to us as both a business and a family.  Fife is where it all began, and we owe a great deal to its communities and of course to Fife Chamber of Commerce whose support is very important to us.

“Little did our family know back in 1908 that Fife would go on to excel nationally in the food and drink industry and it makes us immensely proud to be playing a part in this, and to be part of Fife’s reputation for excellence and innovation when it comes to food and drink.  We would also like to congratulate all other winners and finalists, all of whom are really flying the flag for Fife, and cementing its reputation as a place to excel in business.”

The latest accolade follows Jannettas Gelateria’s success in winning ‘Retail Business of the Year’ at The Courier Business Awards, for the second year running, late last year.  Previous successes include their Barista Mark Edwards being hailed the ‘Best Barista in Scotland’ at the Scottish Italian Awards, and their Golden Cone Award in 2014.
