In what is a ‘first’ for the College’s Hospitality, Retail and Tourism department, eight Jannettas staff have enjoyed the first of four evening classes at the College as part of two specially tailored courses.

Traditionally, the College provides leisure classes to members of the public but this is the first time that the Hospitality, Retail and Tourism department has offered a bespoke course to a local business.

Current and future students will also benefit because, by working so closely with industry, College tutors can use their industry insight to tailor future hospitality courses. On a practical level, a small group of students will also be assisting in the training, giving them the chance to network and build on their knowledge.

The month long training package will inform and enthuse Jannettas staff in the latest technologies and methods to enhance and advance their product range, including semi-frozen desserts such as ice-cream gateaux, meringues and lolly pops. They will also develop their patisserie and cake-making skills.

Owen Hazel, co-owner of Jannettas Gelateria said, “Albert invested lots of time getting to know our business needs and the skillset of our core team prior to creating this bespoke course. As a result, the course will not only enhance what we already deliver but bring new techniques to the table, enhancing the skills of individual members of staff as they develop not only their careers, but the sheer passion for what they do. At the end of the day, our focus is on customer satisfaction, ensuring an unforgettable Jannettas experience for everyone, and I’m sure this course and our ongoing relationship with Dundee and Angus College will ensure that the high standard for which we are known continues.”
Albert Close, Chief Lecturer added, “This unique course has been specially designed around the needs of Jannettas who should be applauded for not just resting on their laurels but striving to improve and do the very best they can. From our perspective, we want to build closer links in what is a fast-moving hospitality industry to help bridge the gap between the student and the workplace, so the opportunity to work with a local business and identify their training needs provides us with a great template for doing the same with others, while also arming our students with up-to-date knowledge.”

Jannettas Gelateria, St Andrews is open between 9am and 10pm, seven days a week. For more information, visit www.jannettas.co.uk.
