S4 pupils from Madras College in St Andrews enjoyed a business presentation and ice cream demonstration from Jannettas Gelateria recently.
Co-owner Owen Hazel and his Business Development Manager Charmaine Duthie were invited in to speak to two National 5 Business Management classes.
The pupils gained an insight into the history of Jannettas, as part of their requirement to gather research and analyse their findings.
Responding to the Human Resources element of the Business Management course, Jannettas, who currently employ both current and past Madras College pupils including the Head Boy, Scott Harris and Head Girl, Heather Proctor, also spoke about the importance of employing the right team, covering the skills and qualities of its workforce and the different roles involved.
The Gelateria has also extended a warm welcome to the pupils to pop in and gather more information relating to the business first-hand.
Stephen Forbes, Principal Teacher of Business and Enterprise, Madras College said, “I would like to thank Charmaine and Owen from Jannettas for coming in to speak to our N5 Business Management students about their business. This should hopefully give invaluable guidance to the pupils on completing their research assignment, provide them with excellent work-based examples to use in their course assessments and make them more aware of the skills and qualities required for the world of work.”
Owen Hazel, added, “We were more than delighted to be asked in to talk to the pupils about our business, how it works and how they themselves can prepare for the world of work, regardless of the area they hope to move into. We have employed many present and former Madras pupils over the year, as well as enjoying their custom for decades, so it was great to give something back. We wish the pupils well in their exams, and hope to see them in the shop soon for a celebratory gelato!”
